If you’ve been wondering what’s happening at Alhovuori these days, Saturday, September from 3 pm to 12 pm is the perfect time to come and experience it for yourself.

The old Alhovuori ski resort is getting a new lease on life after being bought at auction and brought into community ownership. Little by little, we’re clearing and reviving the place together – not to make it “finished”, but to make it alive. Tules is the first open invitation to step into this story.

Come spend an autumn weekend surrounded by forest, lake, hillside and fellow humans. Hike, enjoy the sauna, listen to music, join a workshop, or simply be. You’re welcome to come as an audience member, but even more than that, we hope everyone will feel encouraged to become part of what happens here.

The theme is "ruska", the spectacular colours and atmosphere of the Finnish autumn: Alhovuori’s forest and natural phenomena, enhanced with sensory additions. We’ll be at the mercy of the weather, from the unpredictability of the afternoon to the darkness of the night, so the experience will take shape with the conditions, becoming exactly what it is meant to be.

What is Tules?

Tules is a collaboratively created, family-friendly light and sound event. At its heart are nature, site-specific DIY art, music, dance, encounters, saunas and making things together. Here, participation matters more than consumption, and the event is created through the collaboration of the community, volunteers and everyone who takes part.

Bring weather-appropriate clothing, your own food and an open mind.

Preliminary schedule for the day:

15.00 The area opens: hiking, workshops, and hanging out in the Alhovuori area

Afternoon & evening Culture, doing things together, encounters, sauna, and music

After dark, the dark forest and hillside awaken to experiences enhanced by light and sound

24.00 The public event ends

The event is a support fundraiser for Alhovuoren Kiinteistöt Oy, the Alhovuori community. All proceeds go directly toward the renovation and development of Alhovuori.

• Infrastructure: Forest, lake, sauna, sauna, grill huts, lean-tos, showers, and hot water (at least for the first arrivals).

• Toilets and Accessibility: There are a limited number of indoor toilets and portable toilets (including an accessible toilet) on site. The event has limited accessibility; the event route follows a road with an art map, and the lighting installations on the slopes can also be admired without climbing up.

• Water and food: Drinking water is available, but well water must be boiled before drinking. Bring your own snacks. There are several lean-to shelters and campfire sites in the area for self-service cooking. A microwave and a single-sized shared refrigerator are also available.

(Please note that the services and facilities in the area are still under development.) 

We follow safer space principles:

• Discrimination-free zone: We respect everyone exactly as they are.

• Nature was here first: We respect the environment and its animals.

• Leave No Trash & Self-sufficiency: There are no recycling bins in the area. Everyone brings their own trash bags and takes their own trash away. The same applies to any creative projects.

• Leave No (pop-up) Structures: For now, no permanent structures may be built in the area. However, we welcome ideas with open arms and warmth.

• Circular economy and non-commercialism: The event is based on co-creation and sharing, not consumption (BYOB – bring your own drinks allowed).

⚠️ Safety and things to note

The area has many old, poorly maintained structures and hazards that are being renovated bit by bit. Please be extremely careful when moving around! Ticks and adders are also present, and there may be debris in the terrain, so children and dogs must not move around the area unsupervised.

The easiest way to get here is by your own or a shared vehicle.
